SOLIHULL

Join Us!

We welcome new members at any time, though the best time to join is at the beginning of a new project. We usually start a new project immediately after a concert, except at Christmas when we start again at the beginning of January.

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings at St Peter’s School, Whitefields Road, Solihull (there’s a map HERE) from 7.30 to 9.30.

Previous experience of choral singing is helpful, but not essential and it helps if you can read music at at least a basic level. We spend plenty of time in rehearsal learning the notes, and you will have free access to practice tracks prepared by our conductor on the members’ area of the website.

If, after a few weeks with us, you decide you want to join permanently, you will be asked to attend a short “voice test”. This really isn’t as daunting as it sounds! You will be asked to sing some scales and arpeggios to check your range, and to sing a song of your choice. These tests are held in another room with only our conductor, John Bayley and our accompanist, Darren Hogg, in attendance. The purpose of the test is to make sure you are singing in the correct voice-part, and that you can sing rhythmically and in tune.

If you are interested in joining this lively and friendly group of singers, just turn up on Tuesday, or email our Membership Secretary for further details.

We hope to see you soon!

Young Singers' Scholarship

A bursary of £100 towards the cost of singing lessons with an approved teacher

Free membership of the Choir for the Season

Free provision of music

We are happy to consider anyone who applies during the year, but to take full advantage of the experience, we would like applications in time for the start of the season in September.  For this you will need the support of whoever is responsible for your music teaching and also your parents.  If you wish to be considered, we ask that you attend a few rehearsals.  You will then be given an informal audition when you will be asked to sing a piece of music of your choice.
