Greater Love

3.00pm, Saturday 29th March at Shirley Methodist Church

Programme and tracks to listen to or watch

Dear Chandos and Hampton Singers,

We are very excited to be working towards this shared concert.

The original concept for this programme was devised by Leon.  Together with both choirs’ committees, we have trimmed the original plan and replaced a few numbers. This resulted in the full programme that you have in your booklet.

Entitled “Greater Love” as a reference to the John Ireland which opens the second half, the programme has an eclectic mix of music which represents the many ways “love” appears in our lives.  There is a lot of challenge in the programme and so you will need to do your homework but, we hope, that it will be both rewarding and exciting challenge!

The first half, directed by Dexter, is a tour of significant works with a connect to the theme from Germany and Austria.  The second half, directed by Ben, is a tour of Britain with an American twist towards the end...

We have both annotated the booklets with markings so each choir is performing in the same way and to save time in rehearsals.  Unfortunately, Dexter’s markings have not made it into the final printed version and some of the ones Ben made have become very faint in their printing.  Therefore, we have attached a digital copy of the booklet.  We would ask that you use this copy to transfer the annotations into your copies to help save time in rehearsals.

To get used to singing as one massed choir (very exciting!) we have planned a few joint rehearsals. The details of those will be shared once they have been finalised by the committees.

We’re very excited about this programme and can’t wait to hear it with you all – enjoy!

Beach | Peace I Leave with You

This is an unusual learning track as it’s all parts in one video but I’ve included it because it’s sung.  The full video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WD5IFjOQMc.  In the comments there is a list

Here are a different set of videos which are split by part with the part highlighted on piano over a sung recording.
